Perched high atop Mount Hohenzollern, this breathtaking neo-Gothic fortress is one of Germany’s most magnificent castles. The current Hohenzollern Castle is the third incarnation of the fortress, built between 1850 and 1867 under King Frederick William IV of Prussia. The first castle on this site dates back to the 11th century but was destroyed in 1423. A second version was constructed in the 15th century but fell into disrepair over time. The present castle was designed as a romanticized tribute to medieval chivalry, featuring elaborate turrets, lavish rooms, and exquisite artwork. Today, it remains privately owned by the Hohenzollern family but is open to the public for tours and special events.
Hohenzollern Castle is located near the town of Hechingen in Baden-Württemberg, about 50 kilometers (31 miles) south of Stuttgart.
By Car: The castle is easily accessible via the A81 and B27 highways. A parking lot is available at the foot of the hill, from which visitors can either hike up (about 20 minutes) or take a shuttle bus.
By Train: The nearest railway station is Hechingen, which is well connected to Stuttgart and Tübingen. From Hechingen, a local bus or taxi will take you to the castle entrance.
By Tour: Many guided tours from Stuttgart and surrounding cities include Hohenzollern Castle as part of their itinerary.

Shuttle Bus: €3 per person (round trip)

March to October: 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM
November to February: 10:00 AM – 4:30 PM
