Herrenchiemsee Castle was built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria, who sought to replicate the opulence of the Palace of Versailles. Construction began in 1878, but Ludwig’s untimely death in 1886 left the palace unfinished. The design was inspired by Louis XIV’s Versailles, with intricate rooms, vast gardens, and lavish furnishings. Despite its incomplete state, Herrenchiemsee Castle stands as a monumental testament to the king’s ambition and artistic taste.
