Wiener Platz has been a local hub since 1889, when it first opened as a satellite of the Viktualienmarkt to serve the growing Haidhausen neighborhood. Over the decades, the square evolved into a picturesque market space, surrounded by pastel-colored buildings and traditional beer gardens. After World War II, the area was restored with care, maintaining its old-world character.
Today, it’s a beautiful blend of Munich tradition and village atmosphere—where locals still greet each other by name and where time seems to slow down.
Getting to Wiener Platz is easy and scenic:
By U-Bahn: Take the U4 or U5 to Max-Weber-Platz, then it’s a short 5-minute walk.
By Tram: Tram lines 15, 19, 21, or 25 also stop at Max-Weber-Platz.
On Foot: From Marienplatz, enjoy a lovely 20-minute walk over the Isar River and through Haidhausen.
Guided Tours: Available for an additional fee (great for first-timers)
The market stalls generally follow these hours:
Monday to Saturday: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Sunday: Closed
Note: Some stalls may open or close slightly earlier/later, especially in warmer months.
